Intro Text:
Body Text:
The AVITERA® SE is a revolutionary textile dyeing product for use on cellulosic fibres that saves 50% or more water and energy and reduces C02 emissions by 50% or more during the dyeing and washing off processes. This technology also helps to reduce processing time by 25% or more without any capital investment due to:

Fixation: A very high fixation rate, thanks to the newly developed reactive groups. Using AVITERA® SE <5% of unfixed dye is removed during the subsequent wash off stage as opposed to 15-30% with conventional dyes.

Washing Off: Less wash off is needed with less wash baths, lower temperature and less time required to reach the desired level of colourfastness.

Body Text:
For use on cellulosic fibres, the Sera Eco Wash process saves water and energy and reduces C02 emissions during the dyeing and washing off processes. This technology also helps to sharply reduce processing time.

Fixation:
Remazol RGB , Remazol Ultra RGB and Levafix CA dyes offer outstanding build up performance with very high fixation rates and excellent fastness properties

Washing Off:
By using Sera Fast C-RD in the washing off process the number of baths can be reduced thereby saving water and energy and reducing C02 emissions

Body Text:
Public life cycle assessment data is unavailable for AVITERA® SE. However, Huntsman quotes results from an example mill in Asia that it worked with to improve resource efficiency. By auditing the mill and optimising processes and dye recipes to “best available technology”, carbon (CO2) and water savings of around 30% were achieved within the mill [1].

Huntsman estimates that by implementing their AVITERA range (shown on the figure as “new technology”), carbon and water savings of 62% could be achieved compared to the “before audit” baseline.

Body Text:
Different from either traditional printing or fabric dyeing processes, AirDye® technology helps clothing and textile manufacturers create products with a reduced environmental impact.

The AirDye® technology is used to dye and decorate textiles in roll goods, with the dyeing and decoration occurring in a single production step, without water or toxic chemicals. There are no post-production treatments required.

Body Text:
Colorep® in the US has published a life cycle assessment (LCA) of the performance of the AirDye® technology, taking into account impacts occurring up to its factory gates (cradle-to-gate) [1].

As shown on the figure to the left, the study found that, compared to best practice technologies, AirDye® provides 60-80% savings in carbon (greenhouse gas) emissions and 29-95% savings in water. The exact percentage depends on the application for either “design” (AirDye’s “Controlled Penetration“ technology, which is an alternative to conventional sublimation printing) or “solid colours” (AirDye’s “Complete Penetration” technology, which is an alternative to conventional dyeing) [1].

Body Text:
Solution dyeing (also known as dope dye) is not a new process but one that is showing a renewed interest for the dyeing of synthetic fibres because of its environmental impacts and resource savings.

Colour is added as colour chips within the polymerization stage before extrusion which eliminates the need for wet dyeing processes.

High colour volumes have traditionally been difficult due to the required extrusion minimums, but solutions can be found through:

Working from stock colours in yarn dyed applications

Collaborating across businesses to form alliances on core key basic colours to drive the industry forwards.
