To reduce dependency on finite resources such as petroleum, new raw materials and fibres are being developed that are plant based and annually renewable.

DuPont™ Sorona®; renewably sourced polymer is one of these and is a partially bio based polymer derived from plant sugar and oil based TPA.

Other currently commercial bio based synthetics used within the apparel industry include, 100% bio based PLA (Polylactic Acid), 100% bio based PA11 (Polyamide 11) and partially bio based PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate).
