Infrequent laundry

Approximately one quarter of the carbon footprint of clothing happens in the hands of consumers, primarily as a result of cleaning and laundry [1].

Design concepts need to begin to reflect this by exploring opportunities to reduce laundry impact through strategic design, such as the consideration of specific coatings and finishes and suitable materials.

London College of Fashion PhD student Emma Dulcie Rigby's 'Energy Water Fashion', aims to encourage infrequent laundry through the use of materials such as waxed organic cotton and wool.
